There are not enough great words to describe the sensational fragrance of the The Cannonball Tree

The scent is miles better than the classics of perfume plants including the world famous Ylang-Ylang tree, the JOY perfume tree and the Milkway tree as well

The perfume is amazingly complex

You can't sniff just once -- you test the flower with your nose, you are then instantly compelled to sniff over and over again as you marvel at the sweet complex perfume combinations

And as you sniff, you look at the flower which is as intricate and complex as any orchid on earth - fabulous beauty combined with world-class perfume -- a combination few have ever experienced

The fragrance is even more powerful at night

Every year since 1974 we have tried to get our own Cannonball Tree with no luck.  We kept trying - asking everyone in the plant business - no luck, no leads.  In fact, as far as we know, there are only two growing in the continental America.  One is at Fairchild Tropical Gardens and one is at the University of Miami

The Cannonball tree at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens was collected in 1913 and has flourished after planting in Miami in 1938.  So America's "Super Specimen" of the Cannonball Tree is nearing 100 years old - here it is below

In 2008 we were finally able to obtain fresh ripe seeds (from a source outside the USA) and planted.  Sprouts came up and now 34 Cannonball Trees are available to you, but...

We're going to keep one

One will go to mother

One will go to my best friend in the nursery business

The flowers are formed off unusual thick woody extensions that grow from the main brown trunk of the tree and cascade down in large numbers

The reason the tree is called cannonball is after flowering, large brown seed balls are formed in the size and shape of cannonballs

Based on info we have researched, Cannonball is for sure comfortable in zone 10 and we have read zone 9b might be OK

Cannonball is a sizeable specimen and shade tree (range of 35-45 feet at maturity) for which you'll want to devote a generous premium location at your home

If you are a serious plant person and want by far the most exclusive specimen perfume tree imaginable, the Cannonball is it
