If you've ever been to Florida, you know we have grapes on trees on our Sea-Grape tree Sea-Grape is a very tough customer, able to grow just behind the sand right on the beach. The leathery, round evergreen leaves are the secret to withstanding blowing winds and blowing sand New leaves (seen above) appear in late winter and have a reddish color ...slowly turning green Near the beach, we even sometimes see Sea-Grape used as a hedge plant In our local area of Fort Lauderdale, Sea-Grape is also seen on many residential lots. As a native, Sea-Grape is totally carefree. No need to water once established. No need to fertilize Rated at about 25 feet, Sea-grape can be a large shrub or a small tree, depending on nature or your training ...or let yours grow totally naturally. Sea-grape is a zone 10 native but likely will do fine in warm parts of zone 9, or in pots almost anywhere Sea-Grape wood is also interesting and very nicely multi-colored, varying with the amount of sun and salt exposure The grapes are the seeds and grow in fine clusters, especially where exposed to the sun. Birds love to eat the grapes and a fine jelly can be made when ripe in early summer Sea-Grape is highly salt tolerant and can be happy very close to the ocean. Sea-Grape wants full sun and its favorite soil is plain beach sand. Better soil, however, is appreciated as long as it is well drained When planting into a container, add some good soil and water faithfully until established. Thereafter, no care is required except pruning for desired appearance Sea-Grape >> Never before offered on this list The Sea-Grape plants we have for you today are tall, running 7-9 inches, green and happy ...but they'd rather be at your house Sea-Grape trees are offered at only $14.00 plus $5.50 shipping and handing, $19.50 total
