What's the fuss?  Bay Tree is coveted worldwide as a beautiful tree but mainly as a heavenly spice all around the Mediterranean plus in cooking recipes from many other countries

In Greek mythology, Apollo is always depicted with a bay laurel wreath on his head.  The wreath signifies honor, often presented to athletic winners and in poetic competitions.  Modern is to use a wreath of Laurus nobilis to signify victory

Bay Tree topiary is very popular, especially in France

Grows great in pots (preferred) in zones 7-10 outdoors year around.  Colder climates are OK as well with some protection during cold nights.  Europeans use pots and often train Bay Tree into shapes, kept smaller, lower, for ease of picking the leaves

Here's a curious fact: Many people have never even seen or used a "real" (true) bay leaf in cooking.  One reason is California Bay leaves (Umbellularia californica) have been sold and substituted for True Bay...the two trees are not even in the same family and nowhere close to taste and quality
