Much faster growing than the Phoenix dactylifera, but not as tall, more slender and extremely ornamental.  Wild Date Palm handles zones 9 and 10 and is probably OK in warmer zone 8  ...Wild Date is known to handle down to 19 degrees

Seen in all climates of Florida, but also in cooler climates including Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, California as well as many other southern states.  Phoenix sylvestris looks like the classic oasis palm

In India, Phoenix sylvestris is prized as the source of sugar sap which is made into a strong distilled spirit

Although fast growing, very hardy, and adaptable, Phoenix sylvestris is virtually unseen in the USA.  To have a fine sylvestris in Florida, for example, is far less common than having a Phoenix dactylifera

Drought and frost tolerant, Phoenix sylvestris is a fast growing palm, rated to about 40 feet, but seen more often at 30-35 feet or so.  Known to handle temperatures as low as 19 degrees, the beautiful blue-green fronds still shine in the cold
